Good mix of varied ability athletes at a busy Rhos parkrun - plus NW results round up...

It proved to be another bumper turn-out at the Llandrillo yn Rhos parkrun last Saturday with a generous mix of top junior and senior club runners, plus numerous first timers, social runners and walkers.


Six out of the first ten finishers at Rhos were debutants, including many talented youngsters, all testing their paces against each other. 


Surprisingly though, in a sprint finish, VM35 athlete Aled Hughes (GOG Triathlon) eventually claimed the top spot with a new course PB in 17 minutes and 11 seconds, whilst JM11-14 youngster Finlay Potter (Warriors Pentathlon & AC) finished just two-seconds behind Aled in 17.13, and Craig Connor (Chester Tri-Club) took the third spot, and he was only another few seconds adrift in 17.16. \


*Visitor Vicki Cleall (Dragons RC Sale) was the first female finisher at Rhos (34th overall) on her course debut in 21.40, and Rebecca Downs (Colwyn Bay AAC) took the second spot with a new course PB in 22.55, and Olivia Mitchell was third second on her debut in 23.36. *There were 420 finishers at Rhos.

 

*North Wales Road Runners entered thirteen members with track athlete Steve Gardner leading the team home in 10th place overall with a new course PB in 18.38, and he also won his VM60 age cat, with Stuart Culverhouse next in 21st place in 20.42, and Paddy Walsh third and just one place behind in 21.03. 

Tony Price Jones continued to impress with another solid run in 26.07 in 115th place, and he was just one-second ahead of marathon man Mal Preece in 26.08.


Master vet Rob Fryer won his VM70 age cat in 26.17, and Hannah Griffith finished close behind Rob after recovering from injury in 124th place, with a new PB in 26.25. Another master in Don Hale was 138th in 27.02, and he was second in his VM70 cat, whilst Gethin Wyn Jones and his child buggy took 154th place in 27,38. 


Elizabeth Driscoll was delighted with her superb canine star Winston, and the pair recorded another excellent course PB in 29.38, whilst super-vet Mike Hayton won his VM75 age cat in 29.53 in 205th place. Meanwhile Carla Green acted as a welcome guide for VM65 entrant Barry Dickenson, and they finished together in 38.29, with Chris Davies 373rd in 39.27.

 

*Other local runners at Rhos included: (12) Harry Driscoll (Meirionnydd RC) 18.47; (28) Morgan Kendall (Meirionnydd RC) 21.24; (31) Josh Mottram (Colwyn Bay AAC) 21.27; (35) Ian Taylor (Colwyn Bay AAC) 21.50; (44) Darren Dentith 22.24; (72/73) Lucas and Iain Burgess together in 24.16.


*Eight GOG Triathlon members were involved with Aled Hughes the first finisher overall, and Andy Jones (25) in 21.15; and Andy Brazier (52) in 23.05. *Porth Eirias Runners also had eight members running with Jasper McQueen(23) in 21.08; Barry Palmer (55) in 23.15; and Pedro Gaspar (90) in 24.59. Their first female finisher was Sonia Wignall in 31.07.


  

 *Barney Reese (*above left) was the first finisher at Conwy, with Dominic Marray-Woods, and the first female finisher Natasha Dent.

 

*Conwy: Barney Reese finished first at the Conwy parkrun on his debut in 17.56, and the first four male athletes were all visitors, and two out of the first three female finishers were also first timers. Teenager Dominic Dennis Marray-Woods provided Barney with some stiff competition though, but eventually he had to settle as the runner-up in 17.57, with Kyle Hurst third in 18.32. 

*Visitor Natasha Dent was the first female finisher in 21.14, and Mia Williams was second with a new course PB in 22.10, and Hatty Matthews third on her debut in 22.26.

*Some other local athletes of note included: (12) Simon Nixon (Denbigh Harriers) 22.29 and 1st VM65; (19) Anna Drinkwater (Eryri Harriers) 23.29; (42) Liz Evans (GOG Triathlon); (77/78) and first FV75 cat;(77/78) Claire and Rosie Parsley in 29.02; (80) John Stallard 29.09; (101) and Pam Grant was 3rd in her VW65 cat in 31.15. *There were 149 finishers at Conwy.



*The start on the Cob at last weeks Conwy parkrun.
 

*Prestatyn: Tom Carter (Prestatyn RC) was the first finisher at the Nova parkrun at Prestatyn in 17.44, and his club colleague Alex Ryder was the runner-up in 18.20, with Mathew Baker third in 18.29. *Visitor Katie Parry (Leeds City) was the first female finisher (10th overall) with a new course PB in 20.57, with JW11-14 athlete Freya Roberts-Howienext with a new PB in 24.50, and visitor Laura Hurrell (Meltham AC) took the third place on her debut in 27.23. 


*Prestatyn RC entered 24 members at Nova, with Tom and Alex taking the first two spots, and Dafydd Montgomerywas the third club man in 20.45, with Nicki Triggs the first female finisher in 28.54; whilst club colleagues Eve Manifold and Tilly Jones finished together in 28.56. *There were 211 finishers at Nova.

 

*Penrhyn: Betsi Runaway athlete Jonathan Tyler was the first finisher at the Penrhyn Castle parkrun with a new PB of 17.06, with Andrew Douse second with a course PB in 17.56, and debutant Daniel Clifford was third in 19.02. 


*The first female was JW11-14 athlete was Celsi Jones (40th overall) in 24.31, and Nicola Holgate took the second spot on her debut in 24.42, with teenager Bethan Blake (Eryri Harriers) third in 24.45. *Eryri entered nine members with Tony Hall(21) in 23.07; with Beth was next (44) in 24.45; and Alison Thomas third (60) in 26.42. *There were 205 finishers at Penrhyn.
