North Wales Cross Country League 2024/25: Latest updates with fixtures and opportunity to run in the Welsh Inter-regional XC champs...

LAST CALL:


The first North Wales Cross Country League fixture starts at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay, tomorrow (Saturday 5th October), with junior races starting at 10-30am (Under 15 Boys) and the Senior races starting as usual at 1pm.


We are still outstanding team lists from a small number of clubs and the first fixture is on Saturday. Please give us a chance to prepare your numbers in advance.

WELSH INTER REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS - NEWTOWN 16th November 2024.


Last year we had our best ever results at the Welsh Inter Regional Cross Country Championships and we hope to replicate or even better that this year. 


Once again the Championships will be held in Newtown but unfortunately there is a clash with those who have aspirations of competing for Wales in the BMAF Cross Country International, which is on the same day in Belfast.


We will be picking the teams shortly after the second North Wales Cross Country League fixture, so if you are interested, we need to know. Let the Team Managers, John Messum, Sharon Jones, and Crispin Blackshall know if you're a junior and Eric Campbell or myself if you're a senior or master.


If you don't tell us you're interested, we don't know, so please do not complain afterwards if we miss you out. Some of us will be there on Saturday or two weeks time in Wrexham. Alternatively e-mail me or message me: Bernie-jones@sky.com 


*CHANGE OF XC VENUES:


Please note due to the unavailability of the PGL Centre, Baschurch in October, we have changed around the dates for the Wrexham and Shrewsbury fixtures.

 

The revised fixtures/venues for the 2024/25 Season are:

Sat 5th October 24 - Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay.

Sat 19th October 24 - Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, Wrexham.

Sat 30th November 24 - Aberysywyth.

Sat 11th January 25 - PGL Centre, Baschurch, Shrewsbury.

Sat 8th February 25 - Marches School, Oswestry 

 

*The North Wales Cross Country Championships are on Saturday 4th January 2025 at Treborth Track, Bangor.

It was a proud moment this weekend for athletics coach, MC and promoter, John Hatton as he saw his new running protegee  Sharon Buckley – a well-known former North Wales midwife - cross the finish line at the challenging Conwy half-marathon with a remarkable time. John, who is heavily involved with North Wales Road Runners , Conwy parkrun , and is also a keen supporter and promoter of a host of charity events, confirmed: “Over the last 6 months I have been training Sharon, who is 60, to run her first half-marathon which she did today in 2.34.17, which is a fantastic achievement. “Sharon was a highly respected midwife in North Wales, and at one time she received an award as the top midwife in the Betsi Cadwalader Health Board for her dedicated service to the community.” *John Hatton was on hand last Sunday morning

Six podium places for the Road Runners in the tough Conwy half-marathon.

Photos by John Hatton and Lesley Goodson. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   There was a great turn-out of some thirty-one North Wales Road Runners amongst a massive entry of nearly 3,000 mixed ability athletes, who took on the mighty challenge of the Conwy half-marathon last Sunday. Described as one of the toughest half-marathons in the country, and following a picturesque but extremely tough course from Conwy Castle to Llandudno and around the Great Orme, some six members claimed podium places, including one age cat victory, two second places, and three third places, in addition to claiming numerous PBs. Martin Green  who has dual registration for both NWRRC and  Meirionnydd RC , had a fine run after finishing 9th overall with a chip time of just 1 hour 17 minutes and 3 seconds, and he was 2nd in his M50 age cat.  Jo

URGENT APPEAL TO HELP SAVE MENAI TRACK AND FIELD CLUB FROM FOLDING... Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Georgina Seguin from the Menai Track and Field club, and an active member of the NW Cross Country League, is urgently appealing for support from the North Wales community to help save the club from folding! She confirmed this week: “Menai track & field is a successful NW athletics club with over 170 juniors and 20 seniors, but unfortunately due to lack of volunteers the future of the club is uncertain. We need to fill key committee roles within the club including chair, treasurer, secretary, plus a number of other roles. “Without these roles the club cannot run. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   A trio of Road Runners took part in the Porth Eirias 10k race last Saturday morning and they all gained podium places and recorded some excellent results. Stuart Culverhouse  finished in 8th place overall in 41.24 and he was 2nd in his M50 age cat, whilst  Carla Green  was on top form again as the 1st female finisher, (11th overall), and she won her F50 age cat in 42.14, whilst master veteran  Mike Hayton  enjoyed another good performance in 99th place, and he also won his M70 age cat in 59.42. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Conwy parkrun attracted the usual mix of half-term entrants, visitors, and both social and club runners to another sunny but cool morning at the RSPB Nature Reserve. The  Road Runners  had a dozen members involved with  Jonathan Kettle  making a welcome return after a holiday break, and he finished 4th overall and won his VM50 age cat in just 19 minutes and 10 seconds.  Colleague  Will Williams  tried to chase Jonathan down, and he was just one place and twenty-three seconds behind him in 19.33, and he 2nd in the same age cat.  Steve Mason  finished 24th in 22.09, and  Karl Morris  was 28th in 22.19.  Sion Thomas  finished in 39th place in 23.05, with  Tony Price-Jones  49th, and heading back to his best in 23.44, with  Daniel Hennell  hot o
