Congratulations to Crispin Backshall for winning Welsh Athletics Volunteer of the Year Award at the WA Annual Awards Ceremony. Crispin is a stalwart officer on the NWRAC and is also on the committee of Colwyn Bay AC. 

He works tirelessly in promoting and organising T&F events in North Wales as well as officiating at T&F, Road Running and Cross Country events. Such a well deserved award. 

Menai T&F are also to be congratulated for being awarded Welsh Athletics Development Club of the Year for the second year running, particularly in recognition of their development work with youngsters and encouraging participation in all disciplines. 

The club was also praised for involvement with the WA Junior League. And Barry Edwards has also been awarded the Welsh Athletics Meritorious Award for all the work he has done with promoting athletics and providing opportunities for youngsters in the region. 

Until recently, Barry was WA Development Officer for North Wales and, although no longer in the role, he has continued to work on a voluntary basis to encourage youngsters to participate in the sport with a regular Friday night session for juniors of all ages. Congratulations to Barry on receiving this prestigious award.

Report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 A massive well done to the enthusiastic and very talented young athlete Josh Mottram, who won a prestigious gold medal last weekend in the challenging Twin Piers 10k race as the North Wales Regional champion for his age category. The Colwyn Bay AC runner was second overall in his age cat, to another excellent young runner in Ryan Rutledge in 36.47, but he finished first as the Under-20 champion in the NW Regional competition, completing his race in just 39 minutes and 59 seconds.  His friends and club colleagues helped him to celebrate this great effort, and said the were very proud, as he finally dipped under the 40-minute mark for the first time over this distance for a deserved new PB, and he knocked an amazing 3 minutes 30 seconds off his time from last year's race. Freezing cold gale force winds proved a challenge for parkrunners...and for the hardy volunteers and marshals.

Ben and Sarah tackled one of the new National Trust 10k trail events around the UK.

The free monthly 10k Trust10 trail runs are a great way to get some exercise, make friends, and to enjoy nature? That is exactly what two experienced North Wales Road Runners and ultra-distance athletes tried out last weekend at Aberdaron, and although it was not a race, the fascination of a new event and the competitive nature of  Ben and Sarah Hudson  led to both members achieving first places in their respective male and female categories. Each year numbers grow within the Championship with many returning joined by new faces. Entry instructions are explained on the   BMAF Opentrack entry page   However, if you are quick you can save money on your entry fee. T he cost of entry to the North Downs 30K Trail Race for UKA registered athletes is £38, but there is an early bird offer of entry for £36 valid   until 31st January , so you only until Saturday to enter. BMAF 10km championships - Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester 1st Feb 2026 - Don't delay!

BMAF 10km championships - Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit at Chichester 1st February 2026. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 In its eighth year based at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, the 2024 race attracted a huge field of athletes, including some of the best masters athletes in each age group from across the UK.   We have already 63 entries for the BMAF 10k Championships to be promoted on Sunday 1st February 2026 at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester, Sussex.  Due to parking limitations at the venue, the event does have a strict entry limit.  Those 63 entries wanted to be the very first to enter before we announced there were only 600 race bibs left.
