Veteran Liz Evans claimed age cat win for the GOGs at Easter Holiday Conwy parkrun.

Report by Don Hale.

Eight members of GOG Triathlon took part in the Conwy parkrun last Saturday, but their numbers and times were reduced due to competing fixtures and marathon/triathlon preparations, with veteran athlete Liz Evans claiming the main plaudits.

Graeme Tunstall was the first club member home in 58th place in 24.01, and he was closely followed by Steve Dutton who was just two places and two seconds behind.

Hard working veteran athlete Liz Evans continued her excellent form to win her VW70 age cat in 97th place overall in 26.09. Rob Stewart was 119th in 27.31, with Nicola Tomlinson 155th in 30.02, and Amanda Collins claimed 3rd place in her VW55 cat with a new PB in 30.43. Meanwhile, Wayne Roberts had a good run finishing in 163rd place in 30.43, and Katie Harvey was 179th in 32.34.

*The parkrun offered another very soggy 5k course at the Conwy parkrun as a variety of club and social runners opted to run this puddle-filled event, which was boosted by many Easter holiday visitors from all parts of the UK.

This week’s attendance also included several cast member runners from the Welsh National Opera, cast who were touring locally, and there was also a minute’s silence acknowledged by the 252 starters as a tribute to former marathon man, parkrunner, and respected volunteer, Iorwerth Roberts (Eryri Harriers) who sadly passed away in midweek.

The first runner home at Conwy parkrun was Nic Brook (Eryri Harriers) who had a tough battle for honours with talented junior Oshi Adey, and debutant Dave Hughes.

Nic eventually won his MV45 age cat in 17 minutes and 50 seconds, but he was only five seconds ahead of Oshi, who won his JM15-17 cat in 17.55, with Dave third despite a course PB in 18.18.

The 1st female runner was Libbie Read (Heaton Harriers) who was 13th overall, and she also won her SW25 age cat in 20.49, with Gemma Moore (Eryri Harriers) and her baby buggy 19th overall and 1st VW35 in 21.51, with Emma Mills 24th, and 1st SW 20 in 22.09.

*Praise was given again to the Conwy run director, and to all the volunteers and marshals, who made the parkrun event such a success. *This is the link to the provisional results:
