Five age cat wins for Road Runners at Conwy parkrun.

Numbers were down for regulars at Conwy parkrun last Saturday due to the rough weather and several fixture clashes, yet this popular 5k run still attracted tourists from as far afield as Davenport, Rochdale, Stockport, Lancaster, Newbury, and Pontypridd, amongst others.

North Wales Road Runners entered seven athletes this week and five claimed age category wins, with two others finishing in third places. And both the male and female first finishers positions were won by Martin and Carla Green.

The wet and very blustery conditions, however, didn’t seem to affect Martin Green who was the first runner back again to record a hat-trick of successive victories, and he also won his MV45-49 age cat in 18 minutes 56 seconds. 



*Dave Spofforth on form again and he won his age cat at Conwy.


David Spofforth ran very well to finish in 4th place, and he was 1st in his MV40-44 cat in 21.15, with Carla Greenfinishing 7th overall, and the 1st female runner, easily winning her VW50-54 age cat in 21.39; and Jamie Tharme continued to impress finishing 12th and 3rd MV40-45 cat in 22.49.

Joe Culverhouse and his dad Stuart ran together and finished in 18th and 19th places respectively, with Joe winning his JM11-14 cat and Stuart 3rd in his MV50-54 cat in 23.18, whilst master vet Don Hale won his M65-69 age cat in 25.34, finishing in 37th place overall.

*The challenging conditions though kept the finishing times well down with just two runners dipping under the twenty-minute mark, and the first three runners home included: 1st Martin Green (NWRRC), 1st MV45-49 in 18.56; 2nd Andy Savage (Cybi Striders), 1st MV50-54 in 19.26; and 3rd James Williams (Lymm Runners), 2nd MV50-54 in 20.34. There were 120 finishers.

Photos by John Hatton and Lesley Goodson. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   There was a great turn-out of some thirty-one North Wales Road Runners amongst a massive entry of nearly 3,000 mixed ability athletes, who took on the mighty challenge of the Conwy half-marathon last Sunday. Described as one of the toughest half-marathons in the country, and following a picturesque but extremely tough course from Conwy Castle to Llandudno and around the Great Orme, some six members claimed podium places, including one age cat victory, two second places, and three third places, in addition to claiming numerous PBs. Martin Green  who has dual registration for both NWRRC and  Meirionnydd RC , had a fine run after finishing 9th overall with a chip time of just 1 hour 17 minutes and 3 seconds, and he was 2nd in his M50 age cat.  Jo

URGENT APPEAL TO HELP SAVE MENAI TRACK AND FIELD CLUB FROM FOLDING... Stuart Culverhouse  finished in 8th place overall in 41.24 and he was 2nd in his M50 age cat, whilst  Carla Green  was on top form again as the 1st female finisher, (11th overall), and she won her F50 age cat in 42.14, whilst master veteran  Mike Hayton  enjoyed another good performance in 99th place, and he also won his M70 age cat in 59.42. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Conwy parkrun attracted the usual mix of half-term entrants, visitors, and both social and club runners to another sunny but cool morning at the RSPB Nature Reserve. The  Road Runners  had a dozen members involved with  Jonathan Kettle  making a welcome return after a holiday break, and he finished 4th overall and won his VM50 age cat in just 19 minutes and 10 seconds.  Colleague  Will Williams  tried to chase Jonathan down, and he was just one place and twenty-three seconds behind him in 19.33, and he 2nd in the same age cat.  Steve Mason  finished 24th in 22.09, and  Karl Morris  was 28th in 22.19.  Sion Thomas  finished in 39th place in 23.05, with  Tony Price-Jones  49th, and heading back to his best in 23.44, with  Daniel Hennell  hot o
