Charlotte-Rose ran well at Llyn Brenig trail race

Report by Don Hale.

Charlotte-Rose Wilton-Jones was the only NWRRC member at the challenging Llyn Brenig 9.5-mile trail race on Sunday, yet she performed very well finishing as the 9th female athlete.

The race route included a picturesque trail which circumnavigated Llyn Brenig via the adjoining forest and travelled along the shoreline of the lake, with most of it run off-road on rough tracks.

It was officially described as a long-terrain trail race around Llyn Brenig Reservoir, which started and finished at the Visitor Centre.

The talented North Wales athlete, who particularly enjoys endurance runs and trail running, continued her return to form, and finished 27th overall, and she was the 9th female finisher in a good time of 1 hour 16 minutes and 3 seconds. She also finished 5th in her F30-39 age category.

*The race winners included: 1st Rhodri Owen (Un) 55.35, 2nd Ifan Richards (Cyclo Cymru) 59.06, and 3rd Tony Wood (Denbigh Harriers) in 59.23. The Ladies race was won by Rheagan Edwards (Deeside AAC) in 65.20. There were 76 finishers in total.

This was Kevin’s debut at the home of cakes, and at this parkun, and judging by the results it was a fast race, with the winners confirmed as: 1st Ashley Crow (Wakefield & District Harriers) in 18.21, with 2nd Chris Strutt (Ackworth Road Runners) 18.48, and 3rd Danny Moore 19.49.

Llyr sets PB despite tight rugby legs

Another NWRRC athlete performing well in the same English county last weekend was top rugby referee Llyr ApGeraint-Roberts, who set a new PB time at the Gilberdyke 10-miler in East Yorkshire of 61.26, finishing 28th out of some 500 runners, and he was 4th in his MV45 age category.

After the race, Llyr explained: ‘I went into the race with tight legs after refereeing yesterday, but I was happy with the outcome!’

This was another fast dash with the first twenty runners all dipping under the hour. The race was won by Lee Milburn (Rotherham Harriers) in 52.17, but it was a very close-run contest with 2nd placed Matthew Nelson (City of Hull) finishing in 52.31, and in 3rd place was John Birch (Hallamshire Harriers) in 52.41.
