Cai and Kelly-Marie on track at Oulton Park

Report by Don Hale.

Cai Roberts and his partner Kelly-Marie Alford raced around the track during a series of running events at the Oulton Park Grand prix last Sunday, with Cai completing the 10k challenge, and Kelly-Marie claiming 3rd place in her F35 age category in the 16-miler.

The popular running couple, who are still recovering from last week’s North Wales half-marathon, sped along the brand-new traffic free course and around the famous motor racing circuit in different events, with Cai finishing 80th overall in his 10k race in 55 minutes 34 seconds; whilst Kelly battled a much longer and more undulating route, including the circuit, to finish 40th overall and 3rd F35 cat in 2 hours 42 minutes and 23 seconds.

Later Kelly-Marie admitted: ‘I had the worst stitch at mile 8.5, and it took ages to get rid of it. OMG it was so hard! The hills zapped the energy right out of me.’

Jon Evans celebrated course PB at Chester Parkrun

Report by Don Hale.

North Wales Road Runner Jon Evans made a return to the Parkrun last Saturday, but still had to cross the border to Chester as Welsh events have not yet re-started due to current restrictions.

Jon however, hit the trail running, and quickly recorded a great new course PB, whilst also claiming 3rd place in his VM55-59 age category. He finished in 37th position with a time of 22 minutes 6 seconds.

Afterwards Jon commented: ‘It’s been a while! My first race since March last year. Buzzing! It was an amazing experience this morning, and I may have triggered my race allergy!

Another NWRRC runner, John Walker, also appeared on the results list in 203rd place in 29.07. The club pair were amongst 385 finishers, and the run attracted some quality athletes with the first five runners all dipping under 19-minutes. Other local runners included Prestatyn athletes Sian Beck who recorded a new PB in 24.36 in 83rd spot, and Alan Jones finishing in 28.30.

Sammy Hollins (West Cheshire AC) was the first parkrun finisher, and he was also the first JM15-17 age cat winner in 17.52, in a very fast time of 17.52; followed by Ben Sache (Wigan Phoenix) 2nd and 1st SM 20-24 age cat in 18.02, with David Shearer (Un) and 1st M35-39 cat in 18.22.

*NWRRC runners Stuart Culverhouse and his son Joe (*Pictured above) ran together the previous week in another parkrun at Clevedon Salthouse Fields, whilst they were on holiday. Both ran in their first parkruns for about eighteen months and enjoyed their outing in 25.24.
