NORTH WALES RUNNERS DAZZLED AT BLACKPOOL LIGHTS 10K - and course PB for Kelly-Marie.

Report by Don Hale.

Four North Wales athletes dazzled in the glare of the Blackpool Illuminations last Saturday night during the live “Run the Lights” 10k race, which attracted over seven-hundred entrants.

The team effort involved husband and wife duo Charlie and Mandy Owen, with Kelly-Marie Alford and her partner Cai Roberts, together with their young son Noah in his buggy.

Kelly, who has performed well in several recent endurance events, was again the pick of the club members in 146th place overall, and 28th female runner with a deserved course PB of 49 mins 49 seconds. And she only just missed out on a podium position, finishing 4th in her F35 age cat. After the race Kelly-Marie said: ‘Blackpool Run the Lights 10k done and dusted (and Noah).’

Kelly’s partner Cai Roberts also ran well again in 246th place in 54.06, followed by Mandy Owen 268th and 81st female runner in 55.07, with her husband Charlie enjoying his seaside trip in 60.26.

Helen Hannam from NWRRC, who was unable to travel to Blackpool, took part in the virtual 5k race on her own patch, recording an excellent time of 25.08. And some of the club runners didn’t return home from Blackpool until the early hours of Sunday morning due to some accident on the M6.

*The race was won by Martin Peck (Spenborough Harriers) in 33.18, closely followed in 2nd place by Scott Matthews (Sale Harriers) 33.34, and Wesley Harrison 3rd in 34.51. The Ladies race was won by Belinda Houghton (Fylde Coast Runners) in 36.31.
