Stiff competition as youngsters battled the buggy!

There was a keen battle for top placings at the Llandrillo yn Rhos parkrun last Saturday morning with James Yarwood and his twin buggy facing stiff competition from youngsters Finley Potter and Eben Jones.

James (Wrexham AAC) - pictured right - eventually claimed the top spot in 17.02, but he was pressed all the way around this picturesque 5k course by JM11-14 athlete Finlay in 17.21, and JM15-17 youngster Eben (Warriors Pentathlon & AC) in 18.11. And quite amazingly, the first ten finishers all dipped under 19 minutes!

The first female finisher was Samia Jones (Menai T&F) on her debut (11th overall) in 19.24, and she was followed by Elise 0’Nealewith a new course PB in 20.55, and Amelia Anderson in 21.10. *There were 359 finishers at Rhos.

This event once again attracted numerous mixed ability, and social runners and walkers, in addition to a welcome large contingent from the 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer group, together with representatives from several other local cancer organisations.

*North Wales Road Runners had nine members involved and it was good to see Ben and Sarah Hudson - pictured right - back in town again, and they both performed well on their course debuts. Ben finished 34th in 21.38, and second in his VM45 age cat, and Sarah was 75th in 24.20.

Richard Scamans was 37th in 21.51, and third in his VM50 cat; and Jenny Appleton continues to impress finishing in 67th place, and second in her VW55 cat with a new course PB of 24.04. Karen Butler was also on fire again, and she won her VW65 age cat in 80th place in 24.44; and master vet Don Hale won his VM70 cat in 27.23 in 143rd place.

Gethin Wyn Jones was 213th after running with his baby buggy in 30.07; and well done to Karen’s husband and veteran Sean Butler who recorded a new course PB in 30.27 in 217th place; and praise to Helen Hannam who ran as a guide with Barry Dickenson in 283/284th places in 34.40.

*Colwyn Bay AAC had three runners including Rebecca Downs 40th in 22.14; Chris Spillane 68th in 24.05, and JM11-14 athlete Lukas Pusnovas 119th in 26.17. *GOG Triathlon entered six members with Graeme Tunstall 12th in 19.44; Steve Owen 18thin 20.18; and Andy Jones 31st in 21.21. *Porth Eirias Runners also had six runners, and their first three finishers were Barry Palmer 63rd in 23.57; Kevin Baines 141st in 27.19; and Tal Michael 154th in 27.37. 

*Some additional local runners of note were; Daniel Huws (NW parkrunners) 57th with a new course PB of 23.30; James Yarwood’s JM10 son Hugo, who was 60th in 23.41; Andrew Roberts (NW parkrunners) 64th in 23.58; and Jonathan Kettle 69th in 24.05.

 

*Conwy: Martin Green (Meirionnydd RC) was the first finisher at Conwy parkrun in 18.51 with Gareth Huffen second following a new course PB in 19.01; and Anna Drinkwater (Eryri Harriers) third, and she was the first female finisher in 19.24. The other ladies were Alice Horsfield second in 22.16, and debutant Kimberley Morris third in 24.14. *There were192 finishers at Conwy.

*Martin Green (*above left) was the first finisher at Conwy, with (*centre) Anna Drinkwater, who was the first female finisher, and Steve Bozier.

*NWRRC had two runners involved with Steve Bozier 6th overall in 20.05 and he won his VM45 age cat, whilst Rob Fryer was a tail walker this week in 59.19. 

*GOG Triathlon had six entries with John and Michelle Farrell running together in 33/34th places in 24.17; and Joshua White 37th in 24.38. *Colwyn Bay AAC had three young athletes at Conwy who were all members of the Charlton family – with two JM11-14 runners in Edward 50th in 26.09, Daniel 78th in 28.49, and JM10 youngster Hugh 113th in 31.02.

*Some other local runners of note included: Simon Nixon (Denbigh Harriers) 21st in 22.26; Karl Morris (Eryri Harriers) 25th in 23.35; whilst Bethan Wyn Roberts and Amanda Durber ran the course together in 81/82nd places in 29.00; and Pam Grant and Carol Wildgoose (Halifax Harriers), also ran together in 122/123rd places in 31.37.

 

*Penrhyn: Two visitors were amongst the top three finishers in both the male and female results at the Penrhyn Castle parkrun with Andrew Moore claiming the first place in a fast time of 16.38, with Martin Sunderland (Woking AC) second in 17.23, and Billy Hicks (Macclesfield Harriers) third on their debuts in 17.40. 

*The first female was Claire Wilshaw (Strade Gund RDC) with a new course PB in 22.01, and visitor Anne Hurrell (Spa Striders) was the runner-up in 22.30, whilst fellow visitor Hannah Bridger finished third in 23.09. *There were 200 finishers at Penrhyn.

 

*Prestatyn: Ian Lawton (Mersey Tri) was the first finisher at the Nova parkrun in 17.18, and Aaron Dodwell was second despite a fine run in 18.12, with Evan Lewis was a close third in a new course PB in 18.17. *Eve Manifold (Prestatyn RC) was the first female finisher in 21.49, with Lily Johnson (Quays RC) second on her debut in 24.01, and Katie Baker (Prestatyn RC) took the third spot with a new course PB in 24.18. *There were 267 finishers at Nova.

*Prestatyn RC entered twenty-one members and their top three included: 4th Alex Ryder in 18.18; Dafydd Montgomery 14th in 20.39; and Eve Manifold 21st in 21.49. Plaudits also went to Neil Davidson in 61st place and second in his VM65 age cat in 25.26; plus, Grahame Shone was second VM75 cat in 139th place in 30.45; and Stephen Hatfield finished 261st and he was first in his VM80 age cat in 56.27.
