Hot and hilly at the Caernarfon 10k

It was hot and hilly last Sunday for nearly 300 elite and mainly club runners at the annual but rather challenging Caernarfon 10k race.
Local outfit Meirionnydd RC celebrated some outstanding performances including the top four places for their six quality entries.
Dion Griffith was the overall winner in a chip time of 31 minutes and 53 seconds and in fast finish, he was just five seconds ahead of club rival Gavin Stuart in 31.58, and Tomos Roberts third in 32.23; whilst Ifan Dafydd was hot on the heels of Tomos in fourth place in 33.26.
*Llio Jones (Cybi Striders was the first female finisher in 40.03, with Lydia Sharpe second in 40.11, and Elliw Haf Roberts (Eryri Harriers) third in 41.39. *There were 293 finishers at Caernarfon.
There were some excellent results too for many well-known local athletes including Noa Vaughan (Eryri Harriers) 5th in 34.12; Steffan Sayer (Menai T&F) 6th in 34.48; Jonathan Kettle – formerly with NWRRC, and now with Eryri Harriers 11th, who he won his M50 cat in 37.12; and well done to young Joe Culverhouse (Colwyn Bay) who finished 20th, and he was second MU20 in 39.14.
Many local clubs were well represented and collected several prestigious age category and finishing medals, including North Wales Road Runners with six out of their nine team members winning podium honours.
Stuart Culverhouse was 51st in 43.34, and third in his M50 cat, whilst master veteran and NWRRC club chairman Kevin Slattery won his M70 cat with a determined display in 81st place in 47.25. Steve Roberts was also in good form and he was 110th in 50.39, and third in his M60 cat, and Kay Hatton enjoyed another great run to win her F60 cat in style finishing in 119th place overall, and the 22nd female, in 51.23.
And well done to club newcomer Jenny Appleton who won her F55 age cat as the 26th female finisher in 52.13. Nia Lister also ran well in 156th place in 55.18, and master vet Rob Fryer shook off his recent injury woes to claim the third spot in his F70 cat in 58.01.
Kevin Higgins was additionally pleased with his time of 60.17 in 208th place, and Gwen Charlton was also on the mend again, finishing in 212th place in 60.28.
