New National Trust 10k trail events around the UK.
Report by Don Hale
Do you fancy a run around an ancient World Heritage site, or through varied and rugged landscapes? The free monthly 10k Trust10 trail runs are a great way to get some exercise, make friends, and to enjoy nature?
That is exactly what two experienced North Wales Road Runners and ultra-distance athletes tried out last weekend at Aberdaron, and although it was not a race, the fascination of a new event and the competitive nature of Ben and Sarah Hudson led to both members achieving first places in their respective male and female categories.
After the event, Sarah confirmed: “We did a lovely event at the weekend put on by the National Trust; the Trust 10k or Taclo 10. They are not timed (and it’s a case of bring your own watch) but they are at various National trust locations around the country on the 4th Sunday of the month.
“It was super friendly, marshalled and a stunning trail route… Ben finished first, and I was the first female, although it was definitely not a race!”
The new Aberdaron Trust10 trail run started from Porth y Swnt, and the route followed the Wales Coast Path to the small cove of Porth Meudwy, taking in spectacular views of Cardigan Bay, before returning along the road to Aberdaron. Runners had to complete the 5k route twice for the full 10k distance.
What is Trust10 all about?
The National Trust10 events are all about the experience of running at National Trust places full of nature, beauty and history, whether you’re training for a challenge or looking for a sociable jog in the fresh air.
The runs take place on the fourth Sunday of every month, generally with a 9am start time and sometimes seasonally. So please check that the run is happening by visiting the place webpage below before heading out. If monitoring your running time is important to you, please remember to bring your own timing device.
