More than 250 runners braved the baking heat at Conwy parkrun last Saturday morning, and yet despite the challenging conditions, it still proved to be another fast and furious event with the first fifteen athletes all dipping under the twenty-minute barrier.

This week’s 5k parkrun again attracted plenty of elite, club, and social runners, with the results reflecting many tourist participants from across the UK, including Karl Welborne (Birmingham RA and Triathlon Club), who was the 1st man home in just 16 minutes and 7 seconds. Karl also won his MV40 age cat. The first female was Gemma Moore (Eryri Harriers), and she was the 1st VW35 cat and celebrated a new course PB of 19.30.

North Wales Road Runners returned in force this week and their quality showed with five members finishing in the top-ten positions, and they also collected seven podium places including four age category wins and three second placings.

Josh Keogh was in fine form, and he was the first club man home in 17.42 to win his SM30 age cat, finishing in 3rd place overall, and Josh was just 12-seconds ahead of club colleague Martin Green, in 5th place in 17.54, and the winner of his MV45 cat in 17.54.

Steve Forsyth claimed the 2nd spot in his MV40 cat in 18.10 in 6th place, with Mark Jessett hot on his heels, and just 7-seconds adrift in 18.17 in 8th place, but he won his MV35 age cat.

Will Williams was 2nd in his MV45 cat and 10th overall in 19.17, and Steve Mason ran well in 14th place in 19.51, with Gethin Wyn Jones 21st in 21.10, and Dave Spofforth 26th in 21.37.

John Dalzell returned to parkrun after competing last week in his West Highland ultra-race, and he confirmed his amazing fitness by finishing 27th in 21.50; whilst Karen Butler continued with her rapid improvement, recording a new parkrun course PB in 25.15, and finishing 74th overall, and 2nd in her FV60 cat.

Youngster Joe Culverhouse ran with his father Stuart in 101st/102nd places in 27.26, with Joe also winning his JM11-14 age cat, whilst at the opposite end of the scale, newcomer John O’Shea finished in 113th place in 28.16, and he was 4th in his MV65 cat, whilst Rachel Morris ran home in 165th spot in 31.23.
