Brace chef Karl nearly in stew at Peris Horseshoe fell race.
Report by Don Hale.
Brave local chef Karl Morris nearly ended up in a stew on Saturday when he became lost and slightly disorientated in thick fog during the highly challenging Peris Horseshoe fell race.
The NWRRC athlete bravely persevered however, and despite taking a couple of wrong turns, running a considerable extra distance, and helping a damsel in distress, he still managed to complete the race in style.
Karl however, had the courage and determination to eventually conquer the tough Full Peris event, running more than twenty miles, and nearly 9,000m of ascent in total from Llanberis, to finish 49th overall in a time 6 hours 35 minutes and 38 seconds
On reaching the finish line, Karl admitted: ‘A great day out running my first Peris Horseshoe fell race. The route is as tough as they come, and with heavy fog navigation it was always going to be an issue with me. I got lost a couple of times, took two wrong turns, and the last one made me add 1.5 miles onto the route.
‘I also helped a woman having a fair panic attack on top of the Watkin Path, and to be fair, it’s pretty steep up there. I was happy to finish thanks to Stuart McDonald, and to all the marshalls, and Eryri Harriers for organising a great classic.’
Tunnel vision for Mark and Rory
North Wales athletes Mark Jessett and Rory Middleton took park in the Mersey Tunnel 10k race from Liverpool to New Brighton last Sunday, with both men celebrating good runs on this unusual course, which attracted 1,337 runners.
Mark finished 5th overall in 35.08, with Rory 12th in 38.50. The race was won by Joseph Boden (Wallasey) in 32.08, with 2nd Jock McVann (Hillingdon) in 34.27, with 3rd Francois Rafferty (Southport and Waterloo) in 34.45.
