RECORDS WIPED FROM PARKRUN HQ: 

It seems that parkrun have decided to wipe out all the records for the first finishers and all age cat record holders at all parkruns with immediate effect. 

TV news reader and keen park runner Sophie Raworth is trying to gauge some reaction from parkrunners. Today she said: "Any parkrun record holders out there who have just had their records wiped and want to talk about it on the news? Why it matters to you - if it does - that your record is no longer there etc?"

So what is the reasoning behind this action? I have not seen any notification from my local parkrun, or their HQ. Are they likely to stop recording finishing times and age cat results too? I can't understand the logic of this decision, and their failure to consult with runners etc.

What do park runners feel about this. No official notification given!

    A somewhat over reaction to what was justified criticism of allowing biological men to hold female records. I also believe that a number of age records are a result of little porkies being told about DOBs. Not overly fussed about loss of a couple of age group records I held but they did provide an interesting challenge when parkrun touring.

    One of the good things about parkrun was that as an older runner you could try and be top of your age group. That has now been taken away. I will not be going to parkrun again.

Steve Gardner had a superb run in the 1500m track race recording a new PB time of 5 minutes and 9 seconds, to take the gold medal in his MV60 age cat, and beating his previous winning time from last year of 5.13. Report by Don Hale . https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   There was a very good turn-out of members from North Wales Road Runners at the annual Felinheli 10k race last Wednesday, which attracted a bumper entry of some 325 club and social runners on a bright and breezy evening. Martin Green  was back to his best and he finished in 2nd place overall and won his M40 age cat in style in just 35 minutes and 34 seconds, and he was one of five club runners amongst 21 entrants, who claimed podium places, including three age category wins, and two third place finishes.  Will Evans  was pleased with 20th place in 41.03, and he was 4th in his M40 cat.  Stuart   Culverhouse  on top form in 28th place in 42.14, and he was 3rd in his M50 cat, whilst  Iwan Evans  was 31st in 42.51, but he was chased all the way by club newcomer  Benjamin Brummitt

It was a good turn-out at the Helena Tipping 10k race at Wrexham last Sunday with fifteen North Wales Road Runners in action, and they claimed four prestigious podium places Super veteran  Sandy Johnston  was perhaps the pick of the pack this week after winning his MV75 age cat with another outstanding display and a remarkable chip time of just 46 minutes and 18 seconds, finishing in 226th place out of nearly 700 entrants.  And Sandy’s time also set a new North Wales Regional record, taking 14-seconds off Emyr Davies’ previous best of 46.32, set in Caernarfon in 2019. Young  Harry Driscoll  actually led the team home in 78th place in 37.32, with  Carla Green  next in 142nd spot overall in 40

News from Welsh Athletics. 11/07/2024 00:00, In  Blog  /  Wales have put together strong teams for the Masters International Marathon at Chester on 6 October 2024. The teams are being announced now to give athletes the chance to prepare fully for the event at Chester which will be the fourth (of four) Master Internationals against England in 2024. *Welsh Master veteran Alan Davies (*above), at the Ammanford 10k DG Credit Stuart Ladd - South Wales Guardian Top Two UK M70s at the Ammanford 10k. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk The 2024 Ammanford 10k road race was run in ideal conditions of a light breeze and sunshine last Sunday morning.  The Carmarthenshire race is run on undulating open roads between Ammanford and Landybie with a generally steady uphill first half followed by a short sharp hill and then generally downhill to the finish. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Two Road Runners took to the hills, or rather to the mountain last Friday night, to take part in the gruelling Scott Sports Snowdon Twilight fell race. This was an extremely tough, challenging, but well-organised uphill race that started from the road opposite the Royal Victoria Hotel, and followed the Llanberis Path to the Summit of Snowdon. Charlotte Rose Wilton Jones  and  Phil Moss  competed well with Charlotte in 50th place overall out of 68 eventual finishers, and she was the 17th female athlete and 6th in her FOpen age category with a good time of 1hr 12 mins and 43 secs. Phil gave chase to Charlotte all the way and he was 52nd overall, and 4th in his VM60 age cat in 1hr 13mins 9 secs. *The race winner was  George Foster  (Matlock AC) in a remarkable time

Steady performances in dry conditions at Conwy parkrun.

Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Nearly 300 mixed ability athletes took part in another welcome dry event at Conwy parkrun last Saturday morning from the RSPB Nature Reserve, with many entrants taking it steady in preparation for other events the following day. North Wales Road Runners  had fifteen runners in action and  Steve Bozier  led the team home with a good performance in 11th place in 21.34, and he was 3rd in his VM45 age cat, whilst  Adam Lemalle  continued his fine form finishing 19th in 21.58, and he was 2nd in his VM40 cat. Steve Roberts  was 3rd in his VM55 cat in 31st place overall with an excellent performance in 23.03, and  Mal Preece returned to parkrun finishing 62nd in 24.48. Newcomer   Juana Hunter   was pleased with her club debut at Conwy with a new course PB of 25.13 and she finished 3rd
