Kinmel Bay’s surprise home defeat to Glan Conwy finally ends nine match unbeaten run...

Special midweek match report and photos by Barry Griffiths.

Kinmel Bay FC (2) v Glan Conwy (3) at Cae Ffwt Stadium; 10th May 23.

Well, what a match, the Bay well beaten by a team at the bottom of the table and a team Kinmel Bay defeated 10 to 0 just a month ago; but recent history defines a closer competition with the teams a 1-1 draw in March 2022 and 2-5 win to Glan Conwy in Sept 2021, so each to our own analysis of that.

The impact of this game in terms of table place is that Glan Conwy remain at 16th while Bay slips a position to 6th adding to pressure on the last match of the season against Prestatyn Sport on Saturday afternoon KO 2.30 at Y Morfa.

Just goes to show the overall high standard of team fitness and skill in the division with just 7 points separating the mid 7 teams. Each club at Cae Ffwt had 5 subs on the bench but some of Bay’s frequent players were not present.

There were a series of yellow card cautions to Kinmel with one going to the linesman/manager, possibly for offering advice to the match official.

For goals, Joel Jones opened the score for Conwy with the only goal of the first half in 26th minute, despite intense competition for possession. Glan Conwy’s Cameron West assisted by Trefor Jones scored in the 60th minute with their third 8 minutes later from William Arnold who replaced David Pascoe for the 2nd half.

For the Bay Connor Morris scored both goals in the 67th and 75th minutes, assisted by Olly Gray in the 2nd goal. Gray had opportunities snatched by Conwy defence on at least 2 occasions. Conwy played 3 subs during the game with the Bay making just 1 change and that in the 90th minute.

Despite Bays disappointment and what some view as a surprise it was a good fast match to watch.
