New Welsh Masters PB and record for David Gibson at Swansea half-marathon

Two weeks after setting a Welsh M70 Half Marathon record in the Wales Masters v England HM match in Manchester, Welsh Master David Gibson, aged 72, of Tri Hard Harriers ran the Swansea Half Marathon on Sunday with a new PB of 87 minutes and 11 seconds, and setting a new Welsh M70 Half Marathon record (subject to official confirmation).

In addition, it is likely that this is the fastest UK M70 Half Marathon time this year-to-date. At this event last year, David nearly collapsed at the finish owing to the after effects of Covid, so this year’s result is particularly pleasing.

Dave Gardener also set a new PB and Welsh Master record

Super-veteran athlete Dave Gardner received confirmation that he set a new Welsh Masters record in the shot put during the North Wales Indoor championships from last December.

The North Wales Road Runner only received the news this week from Chris Pruski at WMAL complete with a certificate of achievement following his appearance as an M80 vet at Deeside on 9th December 2023, when he recorded a new PB and record throw of 6.36m.

  1. Thanks for posting, Don. At Swansea, David's gun time was 87:25, and that is the time which is used for record purposes. We are, after all, comparing performances with those set before chip timing was introduced. Sadly, our sport isn't great for standardising procedures, which is really disappointing e.g. Manchester only provides chip timing. Congratulations to David on another great run.
