Tired legs but four age cat wins for Road Runners at Conwy parkrun - plus other race results.

There were many tired legs at the Conwy parkrun last Saturday with numerous Road Runners and other local athletes still recovering from their Friday night 5-mile charity ‘Dash’ at Rohan’s Run in Deganwy.

Despite being something of a recovery run, eight seniors and two junior members of NWRRC still turned out amongst the 168 finishers and collected four age category wins.

And it proved to be a memorable occasion for young Alfie Shiland (Colwyn Bay AC) who claimed his first ever parkrun victory with a great new PB over the 5k course in 17 minutes 39 seconds and 1st place in his JM11-14 age cat. Alfie was always in the mix with club rivals and eventually outsprinted the field to celebrate his win after four previous efforts as a runner-up.

The Ladies title went to the very talented Alice Johnston (Les Croupiers) with a great new PB of 19.19, just hours after jetting back from her holiday, and Gemma Moore (Eryri Harriers) was 2nd in 20.08, with Amanda Spencer (Valley Striders) 3rd in 21.59.

Road Runner Mark Jessett ran hard and gave chase in the men’s race but eventually had to settle for 3rd place overall but won his VM35 age cat in 17.56. Gethin Wyn Jones was on form and finished 10th in 20.32, with Steve Roberts winning his VM55 cat in 24th place in 23.20. Another promising youngster Joe Culverhouse ran with father, Stuart, and finished 33rd overall, and 2nd in his JM11-14 cat in 23.44.

Master veteran Rob Fryer won his MV65 cat in 26.15 in 58th place, and he was followed by fellow vet Don Hale who was 2nd in the same age cat as Rob finishing 70th in a tired 27.21.

Another father and son duo, young Ben and Dave Spofforth ran the course together again with Ben winning his JM10 age cat in 86th place in 29.05, and Rachel Morris performed well after the night before, to finish 143rd in 34.38.

Other race results: *Cheltenham: Steve Mason finished 4th at the Cheltenham parkrun last Saturday in 19.11 and won his VM45 age cat on his first run back after injury.

*Stroud: Jamie Tharme bravely competed in the Race the Tower, double marathon trail ultra-challenge at Stroud, but unfortunately, he had to withdraw after 13k and 358m of elevation in 1 hour 49 minutes, after suffering from the effects of an ear and throat infection.

*A brave effort from Jamie Tharme at Stroud following ill health.

*Rhyl: Helen Hannam ran her virtual Rhyl half-marathon after missing the original date due to Covid. She finished her efforts in 2.30.30.
