Photos by John Hatton. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   There was a good turnout of NW Road Runners at the Essa Chester half-marathon race last Sunday morning, and they all competed well, and celebrated with three age cat podium places despite the hot and challenging conditions. Martin Green  looked back to his old self again and led home a team of fifteen members, to additionally win his MV45 age cat with a superb chip time of 1 hour 15 minutes and 10 seconds, finishing well in 13th place overall, out of nearly 6,000 entrants. He was one of three NWRRC members who celebrated podium positions, with Martin’s wife  Carla Green  finishing 3rd in her FV50 cat as the 20th female, whilst veteran  Rob Fryer  also took the 3rd spot overall, and the 2nd chip place position i...

Conwy parkrunners enjoyed a run in the sun at their 400th event...plus other parkrun results.

Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   It was a perfect  morning at Conwy parkrun last Saturday morning with warm, bright sunshine, for over four-hundred athletes, walkers, and volunteers as they commemorated their 400th event. Blessed with unusually good weather, very little wind, and with an atmospheric touch of mist in the distance surrounding the iconic Conwy Castle, people from all parts of the country boosted the number of local entrants to this regular run, with everyone determined to enjoy and celebrate this special occasion. The event also helped to raise awareness of mental health issues and included a brief presentation by  Conwy Mind  at the start, who highlighted examples of their good work, and mentioned the many services...

Report by Don Hale . https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Eleven members of North Wales Road Runners competed in the gruelling Great Orme fell race, which attracted 150 hardy athletes, and is part of a challenging midweek series of similar events. Jonathan Kettle  led the team home in 17th place overall in 36 minutes and 35 seconds, with  Steve Mason  close on his heels and finishing 19th in 37.13. Veteran  Kevin Slattery  followed up his excellent performance in the  Snowdonia half-marathon  with another good result in 46th place in 41.42, and  Adam Lemal...

138th Wenlock Olympian Games 2024 Sunday 14th July.

Ian Dadswell from the Wenlock Olympian Society is trying to promote th e 138th   Wenlock Olympian Games – on July 14th – at the Much Wenlock Leisure Centre, Shropshire, TF13 6NB.  This week he said: “ We’d appreciate it if you would let your club  and members of the Welsh Masters Athletics  know about this year’s Games - and hopefully come and compete! “ Both the athletics and the road race will be on Sunday, July 14th.  The road race this year has become a 10k event, while the athletics offers a wide range of events, including pentathlon with a unique medal awarded to winners in each category.  Both are UKA registered events and results reported to Power of Ten.   “ I’ve attached tiles which we hope you’ll circulate to your members and possible posters for your noticeboard.  Your support would be much appreciated.  Any questions, please get in touch.”   Regards and thanks,  Ian Dadswell,   Chair, Games (Sport) Sub-Committee, W...

Volunteers and entrants wanted for Welsh Masters T&F championships at Yate on Sunday 21st July 2024. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk The Welsh Masters Athletics Track & Field championships will be held on Sunday 21st July 2024 as part of the Avon/Yate AC Masters Open Championships, and potential entrants are advised to register as soon as possible due to the expected demand for places. It will be staged at the Yate outdoor sports complex and is being organised by the Yate & District AC.  And Chris Pruski from WMAL is also appealing for at least three more people to make themselves available on the day to help out with a variety of voluntary tasks.   He confirmed: “I am appealing for volunteers for our WMAL champs on 21st July, without much success so far. We need at least three people, but the more the better. Activities include admin registration, medal organising, presentations and setting up signage etc.” Chri...
