Introduction by Don Hale.   https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk A huge well done to Bernie Jones and his excellent team of athletes from the Cheshire Dragons who completed the challenging Welsh Castles Relay last weekend in blistering heat. Club chairman Bernie, who also celebrated a special wedding anniversary this week, was delighted by their performance, and confirmed: “After two days of intense heat, Cheshire Dragons completed the iconic Welsh Castles Relays in Cardiff. As a small club with a little over 50 members, we managed to get 20 out to complete the legs from Caernarfon Castle all the way down to Cardiff Castle. “Some fantastic performances by all our club members, but a special mention to  Luisa Candioli ,   who not only won leg 8, but broke the women’s course record!! One very proud Club Chairman. Well done the Dragons.”

Welsh Master David Murrie set a new track record and won his 300m long hurdles race in Singapore during an international two-day event.

Special report by Don Hale.   https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk Welsh Master David Murrie beat the heat overseas to set a new championship record in the 300m long hurdles event last Sunday (11/6/23) despite the extreme conditions in Singapore during a special two-day international T&F event.  David, who competed as a Welsh veteran athlete, won his MV65 age cat with a great performance in this long hurdle race (0.762m) in 52.29. David Murrie was obviously delighted with his outstanding result and confirmed: “On Sunday, I competed in the blazing sun at the extremely hot Singapore International Masters Track & Field Championships - in the men’s over 65 300m

Bryn Woodall stars at Conwy parkrun after return from the States. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Conwy parkrun again attracted a good number of talented young athletes and visitors from across the UK, in addition to the usual mix of club and social runners, who all enjoyed a fast dash over this picturesque route despite very hot conditions. The first male runner back over this bumpy and bone-dry, out-and-back course, was promising young teenage athlete  Bryn Woodall,   (*pictured above right),  who has recently returned home from America for a break, where he is currently studying.  The talented SM18 age cat winner who represents  Colwyn Bay AC , celebrated another worthy victory in just 16 minutes dead, and he was more than a minute ahead of his nearest rival, visitor  Liam Busby  ( Wycombe Phoenix AC ) who finished 2nd in 17.06. Report by Don Hale.  https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   NWRRC member Llyr ApGeraint-Roberts came home in 1st place in the T2 classification of the Slateman Sprint Duathlon in the Snowdonia National Park last Saturday.  Despite an undulating course, plus very warm and breezy conditions, Welsh Master and GB International athlete Llyr competed well throughout the event and recorded a time of 9 mins 11 secs for his first 2.36k run. This was followed by a 20.36k bike ride with 368m of elevation, which he completed in 44 mins and 53 secs; and then he followed this again with a second 5.59k run, including 198m of elevation, in 27 mins and 48 secs.  His total time for the entire event including transition was shown as 1 hour, 23 minutes and 1 second. Photographs by Lesley Goodson.   It was another bumper turn-out and another very hot and heavy evening for nearly 200 athletes at the Llanrug 5k race last Wednesday night. Following a fast and relatively flat course around the village, the event attracted a large contingent of top club and social runners, with many additionally recording personal best (PB) times despite the challenging conditions. The race proved to be a very fast dash to the finish with local athlete  Adam Jones  (Eryri Harriers) eventually taking the plaudits as the first man home in just 15 minute

He said this will help to bring people together, who share a true love of competition and athletics, with some generous awards and credits offered for their generous time and service.  In particular, he is keen to invite anyone who is available to help-out at the WMAL Championships at the Ron Jones, Aberdare Stadium, in July.
