Latest news and updates to the Nick Beer 10k  race 2023. – entries now open for this popular event run around Llandudno’s famous Great Orme. https://alwaysaimhighevents.com/ https://alwaysaimhighevents.com/events/nickbeer10k Report by Don Hale.   For next year’s running of the famous Nick Beer 10k race in Llandudno, the previous race directors John and Kay Hatton, from North Wales Road Runners, who have successfully managed this  event  for over 23 years, have finally given over the supervision and control of this popular event to the new race organisers Always Aim High.   We have published their preview and race details and can confirm that the next Nick Beer race will be held on  Sunday 12th February 2023 (12 noon start)  in Llandudno. And our thanks must go as usual to all our local sponsors who have generously agreed to continue their support and include – Tesco (Llandudno Junction), Premier Toyota, Tom Owen and Sons, MKM Builders Merchants, RS Scaffolding, Colwyn Bay Seed Supplies

Club chairman Kevin Slattery was the overall winner of the recent NWRRC club handicap age percentage analysis race, with Kay Hatton finishing in second place, and Sean Butler third. Kevin (aged 67) recorded an amazing 77.69%, with Kay (58) 75.64%, and Sean (63) 72.14%. *Kay Hatton finished second in the club handicap age percentage race. Group photo by John Hatton and most others by Steve Jeffery.   Steve Mason deservedly won North Wales Road Running Club’s Christmas handicap race last weekend despite having an eleven-minute time delay.  Newcomer Steve soon overcame his personal race time penalty to become both the first finisher, and the fastest runner on the day, amongst a talented field of twenty-two club rivals, with the first ten runners all dipping under thirty-minutes. * Steve Mason won the NWRRC club handicap race last Sunday ands he was also the fastest runner on the day.   THE 2022 NICK BEER MEMORIAL RACE WILL COMMEMORATE THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY. The race will be held on Sunday 13th February 2022, with a start time of 12-noon. Report by Don Hale. Photographs by Steve Jeffery.   The GOG Triathlon Club entered a large contingent of quality athletes in the very hot and hilly Nick Beer 10k race last Sunday morning, which was one of the very first major events held in Wales this year since the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns. This popular race starting from Llandudno Promenade, and then out and back, including a tough climb around the Great Orme, always offers runners a stern challenge, but this year, the re-scheduled race - due to previous restrictions - provided an even harder test with very high temperatures and limited shade for the 400-plus finishers. The event also included a prestigious Inter-County race with some of the top runners from North Wales, Staffordshire, Shropshire, and Cheshire taking part. The North Wales team claimed 1st place and were comfortable winners of the men’s race, with the women’s team narrowly beaten into 2nd position following a close-fought encounter. Athletes from across the country descended on Llandudno last Sunday morning and battled soaring temperatures to compete in the re-scheduled Nick Beer Memorial 10k race, which had to be delayed for several months due to covid-19 restrictions. This ever-popular challenge, which started on Llandudno promenade, before climbing steeply around the scenic Great Orme and back, attracted over 400 runners of varied ages and abilities. The event also included a large contingent of elite athletes, and several teams for a combined Inter-County race. And in addition, there was also a highly successful 1k fun-run for children in aid of St David’s Hospice, which attracted over 70 entrants.
