Fast and furious for elite NW athletes at Mid-Cheshire International 5k challenge.

This very popular event, staged on an established ultra-quick course, also included an exciting international match between Welsh Masters and England Masters, with two North Wales Road Runners in  Martin Green  and  Kay Hatton  selected to proudly wear the red vests of Wales. *Kay Hatton (*above left) ran well for the Welsh Masters team, and (*right) Will Williams claimed another 5k PB at the Mid-Cheshire 5k. Report by Don Hale.   https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   North Wales Road Runners Martin Green and Kay Hatton have been selected to represent Welsh Athletics Masters in the forthcoming Wales Masters versus England meeting in the Mid-Cheshire 5k International at Kingsley on Friday 25th August. On receiving his confirmation letter this week, Martin said: “Thanks as always for the opportunity at Welsh Athletics Masters. Really looking forward to this after a hefty block, specifically for 5k (for the first time ever). Report by Don Hale . https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Three members of North Wales Road Runners competed in the Sale Sizzler 5k race last Thursday night which included a quality field of 642 elite and top cub runners. Martin Green  enjoyed another great run and finished 37th overall and he was 3rd in his MV45 age category in a fast chip time of 16 minutes and 19 seconds.  Will Williams  continued his excellent form in 87th place, and he was 4th in his MV50 cat in 17.35, with  Jamie Tharme  223rd in 20.24. This popular summer event again attracted a massive field and incredibly there was only a matter of a few seconds between the top nine athletes, with the first twenty-seven runners all dipping under sixteen seconds.  The overall race was won by  Nicholas Barry  (Sale Harriers) in 15.00, with  Thomas Charles  (Chorlton Runners) 2nd in 1

North Wales Road Runner Martin Green was on top form again during the Helena Tipping 10k race at Wrexham, last Sunday, when he finished 2nd in his MV45 age category, and in 35th place overall, out of nearly 800 quality athletes. This ever-popular race attracted numerous elite and international standard athletes with the event eventually won by  Jonny Mellor  in 29.17, with  Abdulqani Sharif  2nd in 21.31, and  Kadar Omar  (Birchfield Harriers AC) 3rd in 29.46. Photos by Steve Jeffery. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   It was bright and very breezy at the Conwy parkrun on Saturday with over two hundred entrants negotiating the scenic, yet puddle-filled and challenging 5k course. This week’s surprise guests included Antony and Sally Brown, who visited this venue during their epic 6,000-mile trek around the UK coastline to help raise funds for the RNLI, Cornwall Air Ambulance, and parkrun!  The couple were also celebrating their 34th wedding anniversary, and Antony, who is a member of the  Newquay and Par Athletics Club , even took part in the parkrun, and finished well in 54th place in 24.05. *Ultra-distance charity walkers Antony and Sally Brown at the Conwy parkrun. In a star-studded encounter of top club athletes, Martin eventually finished 14th overall with a new PB at this venue of 9 mins 41.9 seconds.  After the race, the NWRRC member confirmed: “Trafford track meeting. My first track race in years and 21 seconds off the last one. Having another go in a fortnight so hopefully I can take some seconds off that.
