Carla G reen back to her best at Conwy parkrun - and sprint finish for talented trio. Report by Don Hale. Photos by Steve Jeffery.   https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Experienced GOG Triathlete Simon Cole took on the challenge against some very fast young students at Conwy parkrun last Saturday morning, and just managed to edge ahead of Harri Jackson and Jack Rigal in a sprint finish to claim the top-spot in just 16 minutes 58 seconds. Harri , who is now representing (Menai T&F), had been the previous victor for the past couple of weeks, but still won his SM20 age cat, but  this  time he had to settle for 2nd place overall, and he was just 12-seconds adrift of the MV40 cat winner, Simon in 17.11, with  Jack Rigal  3rd, and the 2nd SM20 athlete, despite a new course PB in 18.13.  Carla Green  (NWRRC), *pictured right - was back to her best and she was the 1st female runner home, in 17th place overall, in a superb time of 21.15, and also won her VW50

Photos by Steve Jeffery.   https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   In stark contrast to previous weeks, it was bright, warm, and sunny at the Conwy parkrun, which attracted numerous visitors for a bumper turn-out on a challenging 5k course. Promising young travelling athlete  Harri Jackson  (Manchester Metro University AC) stole the show again with another tremendous performance as the first finisher in just 17 minutes and 12 seconds, and he also claimed the top spot in his SM20 age category. He was closely followed by MV45 cat winner  Matthew Baker , despite a superb new PB of 17.44, with  Lewis Hall  the 3rd finisher, with another PB in 19.18 and the 1st SM18 cat winner. The event recorded 244 finishers, with the first 9 runners all dipping under 20-minutes. The 1st female finisher was talented youngster  Bethan B

*Carla Green (*pictured above) won her FV50 age cat at Conwy. Course and car park swamped by downpour at soggy Conwy parkrun... Report by Don Hale.    https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   More than 300 entrants took part in a very soggy Bank Holiday parkrun at Conwy last Saturday which attracted numerous visiting club and social runners. On a challenging 5k course that more resembled a cross between a lake and a swamp following a heavy overnight and early morning downpour, participants even had to negotiate a flooded RSPB car park (*see below) before starting their run. Despite numerous weather-related problems, the first two finishers were still able to splash their way around this picturesque route, with both recording extremely fast times, including   Adam Jones   who claimed 1st place in only 17 minutes and 17 seconds to win his SM2-29 age cat.   He was closely followed by rival  Hamish Morton  (Cambridge & Coleridge AC) in 17.30, who was 2nd in th

Emotional morning as Conwy parkrunners paid tribute to NW Road Runner John Dalzell - plus other race results.

*Pictured above - John  Dalzell  - who tragically lost his life this week. Emotional morning as Conwy parkrunners paid tribute to North Wales Road Runner John Dalzell. Report by Don Hale. Photos by Steve Jeffery. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   It was a rather sad and emotional parkrun at Conwy last Saturday morning as participants, club colleagues, officials, volunteers, and friends, paid tribute to North Wales Road Runner John Dalzell, (48), who sadly died earlier in the week. This shock news had been the main topic of conversation for a few days as people in the running community came to terms with this devastating realisation.  John, a popular family man and a successful ultra-distance veteran athlete, was a regular supporter of parkrun, particularly at Conwy, where he made sixty appearances amidst a total of one-hundred and one other parkruns, including some at Walsall Aboretum, where he used to live, and it was only a couple of weeks since he

Bright and breezy and double the numbers at Conwy parkrun.

*Josh Keogh (*above) ran well again at Conwy. Bright and breezy and double the numbers at Conwy parkrun... Report by Don Hale.   https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   It was bright and very breezy last Saturday at the Conwy parkrun, which was in stark contrast to the previous week’s rather soggy 5k course with continual rain, and these much-improved conditions obviously proved quite an attraction with almost double the previous attendance. And it was another promising teenage athlete,  James Smith  (Menai T&F) who stole the show with another impressive performance as the first male runner home in just 17 minutes and 24 seconds to win his SM18-19 age category. Quite remarkably, this was his sixth victory at Conwy! Visiting runner  Brian Corley  (Bushfield Joggers) finished 2nd on his debut in 17.47, and he won his MV45 cat, with  Aled Hughes  claiming the 3rd spot, whilst winning his MV35 cat, and he was just six-seconds adrift of Aled in 17.53.  Holly C

Photographs by Anthony Paul Davies. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Rohan’s Run, formerly known as the Deganwy Dash, attracted a bumper attendance last Friday night, to help both commemorate and celebrate the life of an extraordinary young student, Rohan Ingley,  who tragically lost his life to leukaemia in August 2018, aged just 17. This popular annual race changed its name a couple of years ago as a special tribute to Rohan, from Abergele, who was a remarkable scholar, and a keen sportsman, with the event now raising thousands of pounds for the  Children vs Cancer  charity and associated funds. More than three-hundred runners turned-out in magnificent sun-drenched conditions on Deganwy Promenade to run this challenging 5-mile Dash, which followed the Conwy Estuary towards Conwy Castle, and then onto the RSPB
